Suffering Frequent headaches? Painkillers may not be the answer

If you suffer frequent headaches, you’ll be only to aware how debilitating they can be. Reaching for the painkillers may not be as beneficial as first believed according to a recent article in the press.

The news article highlighted the danger that taking painkillers could actually increase the number of headaches a person experienced.

In a statement made by the Deputy Chief Executive of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice), Professor Gillian Leng, she said that people who use too many painkillers to treat tension headaches could be causing themselves further pain.

She went on to highlight that getting the correct diagnosis for your headache is vital as different headaches require different treatments.

Nice will be releasing new guidelines to help doctors treat people suffering from headaches, which they hope will ensure that people are getting the correct treatment.

With an estimated ten million people in the UK suffering frequent headaches and 35 million working days lost every year. It is further estimated that 500,000 women and 100,000 men in the UK suffer daily headaches caused by over use of painkillers.

This is not an insignificant problem.
