Healthy Outlook at Muswell Hill Chiropractic ClinicWe can’t stress the benefits of walking enough. However, it would seem that the British public have plenty of excuses that stop them in their tracks, according to recent research undertaken by BUPA.

According to the research, the average Brit walks only 10 minutes a day during the working week. Medical advice suggests that the daily target for walking at a moderate pave should be 30 minutes.

Here is the breakdown of the top 5 excuses people gave for not walking:

  1. Poor weather (31%)
  2. Not having enough time (26%)
  3. Lack of fitness (12%)
  4. Not feeling safe (11%)
  5. Generally feeling too tired (11%)

BUPA has now launches a campaign called Ground Miles to try and get people walking and have even developed an app that can be used to track the distance you walk every day.

Overcoming the excuses for not walking can be a challenge, however, one thing that we are fortunate about in living in North London is having access to many places that provide us an opportunity for taking lovely walks in.

Living around Muswell Hill and surrounding areas of North London offers an unlimited supply of places we can walk, including  Alexandra Park, Hampstead Heath or alternatively a 12 mile borough wide walk, known as the Better Haringey Trail..

Just on our doorstep in Muswell Hill is Alexandra Park. The Park is conveniently located for the surrounding areas of Finchley, Highgate, Crouch End, Southgate, Enfield and Wood Green.

The Better Haringey Trail which is a 12 mile borough wide circular walk. The trail connects many sites of historical and environmental importance in the borough. It takes in Bruce Castle, Wood Green, Highgate , Finsbury Park and Tottenham Hale and is 19 km or 12 miles long. Don’t worry you can take shorter walks within the trail and there is plenty of public transport.

Another park is Lee Valley Park. It is a chain of green spaces which form a regional park along the Lee Valley in East and North London.

We hope you take time out to enjoy the walk included here and the local parks in North London.
