  1. Chiropractic is a primary health care profession.
  2. It is the third largest healthcare profession in the Western World after medicine and dentistry.
  3. There are about 10,000,000 chiropractic visits to British Chiropractic Association (BCA) members every year.
  4. Chiropractors are governed by statute. Because of this chiropractors have to keep up to date and a patient can be assured that they get the best treatment for their problem.
  5. Chiropractors treat problems with joints, muscles and nerves. All the joints of the body but mainly concentrating on the spine.
  6. Chiropractors use gentle but specific manipulation which often chiropractors refer to as adjustments to improve the function of joints.
  7. Apart from manipulation, chiropractors may use a variety of techniques including ice, heat, ultrasound, exercise and dry needling as well as advice about posture and lifestyle.
  8. Chiropractic is suitable for many people. A chiropractor looks at the person as an individual and will tailor a package of care for them.
  9. Chiropractors do not use drugs or surgery.
  10. Chiropractic is backed up by positive evidence, for 15 conditions people generally see a chiropractor for and is even recommended in The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (Nice) guidelines for back pain of greater than 6weeks, but less than 1 year duration.

Chiropractic is a natural, gentle, drug-free healing art that recognises the body’s self-healing abilities.  If you are in pain and suffering right now and are looking for a way to feel better again and be your very best then we are here to help you.

Are you confused about the risks of drinking alcohol? North London Chiropractor Dylan Paydar shares some advice.

Last Updated on Wednesday, 26 September 2012 10:54 Written by Dylan Paydar Friday, 28 September 2012 10:49

risks of alcohol advice from north london chiropractor dylan paydarFirst things first: according to the NHS choices website drinking alcohol on a regular basis, above the recommended limits will endanger your lifestyle. This advice is particularly aimed at many who consider themselves ‘social drinkers’ – but may well be drinking more than the recommended amount and don’t believe they are putting their health at risk.

As chiropractors we offer help and advice on a wide range of issues and we find that people are confused about what the ‘safe’ drinking levels of alcohol are.

Drinking above the daily limit of alcohol regularly could lead to you suffering various cancers, stroke or heart attacks later on in life.

The guidelines for alcohol consumption are that men shouldn’t drink more than 3 to 4 units of alcohol per day. For women it’s 2 to 3 units of alcohol. The following link gives an indication as to the number of units in different drinks. http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/alcohol/Documents/drink_diary.pdf

Most drinks now have a unit guide printed on them but when you are out you could lose track of how much you are drinking. Essentially, a half pint of beer is around one unit which means men can reach their daily limit by consuming  just two pints of normal strength beer and women by consuming one and a half pints.

Or, if you are drinking wine, a woman will reach her limit after just one glass and a man after one and a half glasses! And that’s a normal glass size, not the big ones that people use at home!

People should also be aware that if you’ve had a particularly ‘heavy’ session you should avoid alcohol for 48 hours. Your body needs to recover from the damaging effects of alcohol.

If you drink more than the recommended daily limits unfortunately you’re not alone. It’s thought around 9 million people a day in the UK are drinking more than is good for them.

We all know of people who routinely polish off a bottle of wine in an evening but they really are creating a problem for their future health.

This is where the holistic approach of chiropractic care can be useful. If your body is compromised by excessive alcohol consumption it can make you more prone to health problems in general. From an initial assessment a chiropractor will put together a plan to alleviate the pain you present with such as back or neck pain. Sciatica may cause foot numbness, but so can the effects of long term drinking. A chiropractic consultation and examination will aim to differentiate between the two. Chiropractors aim to encourage their patients to make healthy lifestyle changes and as well as exercise advice this, where necessary, may include advice on how to control excessive alcohol consumption.

For more information about safe drinking levels and the potential damage alcohol can do to you, then visit http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/alcohol/Pages/Socialdrinking.aspx. There’s also a very good drinking self-assessment test to calculate whether you are in excess of any safe drinking levels.

Chiropractors choose a natural approach to healthcare

Chiropractors North london natural approach to health

Muswell Hill Chiropractic Clinic chooses a natural approach to your healthcare.

Although everyone has heard of chiropractic care, not many people understand the range of benefits a good chiropractor can bring.

Here’s a helpful guide to easily understand the great range of benefits of using a qualified chiropractor:

Helps to manage pain.

And when we talk about pain, we are mainly talking about back pain – one of the biggest health issues affecting around half of the UK’s adult population who report lower back pain lasting for at least 24 hours at some time in the year.

It is estimated that four out of every five adults (80%) will experience back pain at some stage in their life.

Chiropractic care can help you to manage your pain by helping to locate and correct mechanical joint problems and the associated nervous system stress, strengthen your muscles surrounding your nerves and advising you on the proper care of your body.

A chiropractor may increase range of movement

Following certain accidents or injuries, you may be suffering from restricted movement. Our chiropractor at Muswell Hill Chiropractic can help manage and control various pains by strengthening the required muscles which will help increase your range of movement.

Our chiropractor will work with you to find exercises that will continue to help your recovery – hopefully to the stage you were at before you had any symptoms.

Essentially a good chiropractor may improve your overall health. You may find that during  a course of treatment other aches and pains or seemingly unrelated problems or conditions can sometimes improve.

Remember that chiropractic care is the investment in your health which will balance the body and allow it to heal itself and function at a better level.

It is this promotion of health, and the prevention of other health issues, which makes chiropractic care an essential tool to a healthier lifestyle.

A chiropractor may be able to help if you have issues with back and leg pain; arm and shoulder pain; migraines; neck stiffness and pain; dizziness resulting from neck problems as well as problems associated with the most common type of arthritis (osteoarthritis).

People of all ages and varying types of lifestyle can benefit from chiropractic care: including the elderly, sportsmen/women, manual and clerical workers, there are very few occupations and lifestyles that have not benefited from the skills and techniques a good chiropractor has developed.
