Advice from a chiropractor in North London – Avoid couch potato back pains during the Football World Cup

posture advice from our chiropractor in north londonThe football  ‘World Cup’  kicked off yesterday in Brazil to an atmosphere of bright colours, incredible excitement and football mania.  It is one of the world’s biggest events and there is a lot of football to watch, with up to 3 matches a day in the early stages.  It all sounds great but in all this fun there is a slight danger –  bad posture.

For most of us we won’t be able to make it to Brazil and enjoy their famous beaches and carnival atmosphere.  Instead of going to live games we are probably going to be stuck inside and

sat on our couches for up to 3 matches in a row.

As bad as missing out on the beaches and glorious sunshine,  my main concern as a Chiropractor in North London is your health.  It is really so easy to sit on the couch for hours on end and damage your back, neck and shoulders.

If you aren’t sitting correctly it can lead to some back pains and other bodily pains.  At our busy Muswell Hill Chiropractic Clinic in North London it is my duty to advise my patients to look after themselves,  so to enjoy the feast of football without damaging your body,  my advice to you is as follows:

• Get up and walk around at half time – Sitting in one place or position for too long is not good for your body and health.  So when half time comes,  get up and  get yourself a cup of tea or your favourite drink.  Stretch all your stiff muscles and joints and walk around.
• Ensure you are sitting correctly – Don’t slouch.  Make sure your body weight is supported by the couch as much as possible and don’t put any strain on one particular area (such as your neck).
• Ensure the TV angle is right for you – Don’t sit in a position where you have to constantly turn your head to watch the TV.  Make sure you have the TV right in front of you to avoid any unnecessary strain on your neck.

If you feel like you need any further advice or a one-to-one session to avoid any back and neck pains during the World Cup then please contact us at the Muswell Hill Chiropractic Clinic on 020 8442 008.
