While most of us will suffer from the occasional headache, if you are feeling that your headaches are more than you can cope with right now then you are not alone.
Headaches are the most frequent reason people seek medical advice. In fact, over 10% of the population of the UK suffer from headaches.
While there are over 20 types of headaches, the most common are tension headaches and cervicogenic headaches i.e. ones resulting from neck problems.
Tension headaches are often described as ‘live with it’ headaches as are usually characterised by a dull pain on both sides of the head, no nausea and long lasting.
As an experienced North London Chiropractor I see many patients suffering from headaches.
Treatment of headache sufferers will often involve adjustments to their neck. I will often provide them with muscle strengthening and stretching exercises to perform and offer them self-help advice to follow.
Here are a few pieces of self-help advice I offer my patients as a chiropractor in North London:
- Make sure that you do not sleep on your front as this causes your neck and spine to twist.
- If you tend to wake up on your front, place a pillow on either side of you before sleeping, this is to help avoid turning onto your front.
- Try cutting out certain foods and avoiding certain behaviours (see list below)
- Relax in a quiet environment.
